Speech Therapy In Houston TX
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), commonly referred to as speech therapists, specialize in helping clients build and better their skills by working with them one-on-one, in small groups, or in the clinic.
SLPs can assist with and treat the following, plus more:
-
Articulation problems: Not speaking clearly and making errors in sounds.
-
Fluency problems: Trouble with the flow of speech, such as stuttering.
-
Oral feeding problems: Trouble with eating, swallowing, and drooling.
-
Expressive language problems: Difficulty speaking (expressing) language.
-
Pragmatic language problems: Difficulty using language in socially appropriate ways.
Clients seeking speech therapy services are required to provide or schedule an initial assessment before beginning. Speech therapy may not be recommended or initiated without first completing an assessment. The initial assessment is a significant determinant in the need for speech therapy, to develop and adjust goals, to provide recommendations, to monitor progress, and much more. The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide results for the parent to review. If you have questions, your child’s Speech-Language Pathologist will be happy to address them with you.
